COGNITIVE ANALYTIC THERAPY
WHAT IS IT?
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a time-limited psychotherapy usually ranging between 8 to 16 sessions. It identifies current unhelpful patterns of behaviour and thinking that maintain emotions such as anxiety and depression. On the background of a mutual understanding by client and therapist as to how these patterns first evolved, the therapy sets out to find new, more helpful, patterns.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY TREATMENT?
The first meeting is for an assessment, to see if the CAT model is suited to your particular problem. After this meeting a set number of sessions is agreed to begin the CAT therapy. Through discussion and mutual understanding of the problem, the therapist will produce written work to support you to make the change.
WHAT IS IT USEFUL FOR?
CAT is proven to be an effective model, both in terms of time and cost, with psychological problems such as depression and general anxiety. It is also effective with eating disorders, history of abuse, and any relationship problems.
